Les noms des décorés de la République à l’occasion de la fête nationale célébrée ce dimanche 12 mars sont connus.

C’est au cardinal Maurice E. Piat que revient la plus haute distinction de l’Etat sur la liste des décorés de la République. Celui, qui avait déjà le statut de Grand Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean accède, cette fois, au rang de Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean.

Après avoir été crée cardinal l’an dernier, Maurice Piat reçoit, cette année, la distinction la plus importante de la République. Il a été décoré Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK). Une consécration qui intervient huit ans après avoir été élevé au statut de Grand Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GOSK). Il avait alors reçu sa distinction le 12 mars 2009 des mains du président de la République d’alors, sir Anerood Jugnauth.

Dans la catégorie des personnes élevées au rang de GOSK cette année, on retrouve en tête de liste l’avocat Désiré Basset, Senior Counsel. Une reconnaissance pour sa contribution dans le domaine légal. Souvent appelé sur des dossiers d’ordre juridique importants, il avait récemment été amené à présider le comité disciplinaire sur l’Executive Vice-President Commercial and Cargo d’Air Mauritius, Mike Seetaramadoo. Désiré Basset s’était, cependant, retiré de ce comité par la suite. Il compose aussi le panel d’avocats du Premier ministre Pravind Jugnauth dans l’affaire MedPoint.

Le deuxième décoré de la liste des GOSK est Jacques d’Unienville. Le Chief Executive Officer d’Omnicane est récompensé pour sa contribution au secteur sucrier. Le troisième décoré est Oudaye Narain Gangoo, président de l’Arya Sabha Mauritius. C’est sa contribution dans le domaine de la culture qu’il lui vaut cette distinction. Il avait déjà été fait Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean.

La quatrième personne à obtenir le statut de GOSK est l’ex-Attorney General Emmanuel Leung Shing. Il est décoré pour sa contribution au secteur légal, politique et social. C’est sous le gouvernement MSM - MMM, entre 2000 et 2005, qu’il a occupé le poste d’Attorney General. Les deux autres personnes à compléter la liste des GOSK sont Jagdis Chundur Mohit, pour sa contribution au domaine médical, et feu Ismaël Valimamode pour sa contribution dans la politique et le social.
