21.1%. This is the percentage growth recorded for tourist arrivals in Mauritius for the month of April. The tourism sector is surfing on an upswing with 111,432 tourists who travelled to Mauritius in April 2017 against 91,992 during the same month in 2016.
The top performers include 30% growth in the UK, 47.8% in Germany, 88.1% in Switzerland, 33.1% in Spain, 39.8% in Réunion Island, 63% South Africa and 31.9% of Middle Eastern countries.
It is thanks to the efforts of all stakeholders in the Mauritian tourism sector that these figures have been achieved. Promotional campaigns were run on CNN, Made in Chelsea, the promotional campaign on the sidelines of Berlin’s International Tourismus-Börse (ITB) and the highly-regarded campaign of Oubliez Everything in Reunion Island. All these are strong actions of the MTPA to boost the markets during this period.
From January to April 2017, 451,114 tourists came to Mauritius, while during the same period last year, the number of tourist arrivals was 419,828. This represents a growth rate of 7.5% for the first four months of 2017.
