Lottotech: Rs1 billion less played between 2014 and 2015

The government’s decision to ban scratch cards has had an impact on the revenues of the Lottotech.

Between November 2013 and October 2014, Mauritians have spent a sum of Rs 2.8 billion on gambling. However the figures dropped by almost a billion rupees to attain Rs 1.8 billion between November 2014 and October 2015. This was indicated in a document tabled in Parliament on Wednesday, following a question to the Prime Minister. Mauritians have played for only about Rs 850 million between November 2015 and April this year. Moreover, this figure has had an impact on the amounts paid to the Consolidated Fund of Mauritius. Lottotech paid about Rs 647.5 million between November 2013 and October 2014 but between November 2014 and October 2015, it paid nearly Rs 200 million less, that is Rs 431 million.
