La Cambuse Public Beach: A piece of unspoilt nature

If you dream of a white sandy beach with crystal clear water all for you; no need to go too far. Unknown to many tourists and even Mauritians, La Cambuse Public beach is a true and pure piece of unspoilt nature. You are tired of the crowded beaches during the weekends? You dream of a tranquil spot on a white sandy beach where you can enjoy a relaxing day with your loved ones? No need to search too far for the perfect getaway. 

Only a few minutes from the SSR International Airport and approximately 50 minutes from Port Louis, La Cambuse public beach is one of the most well-preserved and also least visited beaches in Mauritius. Surrounded by a rich and green nature, the beach will charm you with its postcard scenery. 

How to get to this piece of hidden treasure? La Cambuse is found in the South East of the island. Access is easier by car, as no buses are available to go to the beach. After the roundabout leading to the airport, take the road leading to Holiday Inn Hotel. Afterwards take the road leading to Shandrani Hotel, and turn on the right to La Cambuse public beach. 

Recently upgraded by the Beach Authority, the beach is now easier to access through a well constructed road. The new signposts will also easily lead you to the beach. Once there you will find parking lots for vehicles, kiosks, benches, roofed beach huts, restrooms as well as bins. 

Once there, you will be amazed by the views. You can rest under the large casuarinas or filao trees. You will also find veloutier trees on the beach. You settle under a tree for a nice picnic, enjoy a stroll on the white sandy beach or a dip into the fresh and crystal clear waters. Children can play on the beach and youngsters can enjoy a football match on the grass as well. At the right end of the beach, a water area surrounded by rocks is popular and fit for a swim for children, as there are less waves there. 

However, it is important to know that La Cambuse is not far from a partly open reef. Currents are strong in the area and it is not advised for children to be swimming without the supervision of an adult. Note also that it is a windy beach and in winter, it can get cold. 

If you are a fan of adventure, put on your shoes and head to the rocky area on the right of the beach. You will discover beautiful spots for postcard pictures of the sea and waves. You will be amazed as well by the fishes in the sea. You can also head to the left of the beach where you fill find the Shandrani Hotel. Close by you will discover virgin coastlines. If you want to have fresh fruits and fresh coconut water, you will also find fruit and ice-cream sellers. So what better way to spend your weekend or Sundays?
