Using his magical wand, 26-year old Avish Ramdhanee has revolutionised the trend of home décor and interior designs. Located at Rose-Belle, Deco 89 is an innovative concept brought to life by Avish Ramdhanee some four months ago. This shop deals mainly in home products starting from lighting to flooring. “Since six years, I have been exporting home-based products of European standards to now, Australia and Canada. I have around six years experience in this field. I decided to open a first outlet in Mauritius and bring in innovative ideas. I was surprised to see that Mauritian people like our concepts,” he shares proudly. People no more like to use flower based lightings or simple tiles. People look for uniqueness, modernity and creativity in the designs. This is what we cater for. We have tailored-made and personalised services for our clients. We bring the best quality,” he says. Deco 89’s mantra is good price, good quality and good service. As Avish is a young entrepreneur, he believes that the new generation is looking for new concepts. All the products have a long lifetime. “People are very busy nowadays and do not have time to look for every single products at different places. That’s why we are providing a large variety of products under one roof. At our place that you can find home-based products from A to Z. Customers today are looking for products that last for a longer time. We promote a long term investment for a house,” he adds. Avish has already worked on two villas and he is now working for a hotel project in the north.

Avish stems from a humble background. After completing his HSC, two avenues were open: go to university or join the family business. He chose the second option. But with time, he decided to launch his own business and turn his passion into his profession. “It was an easy choice and under my dad’s guidance and with my mum’s support, I was able to start my business. My parents taught me to become a self-made man,” he says.

Unique products

Uniqueness prevails at Deco 89. “Every two or three months, we innovate with our products. So, our clients have various choices and the products remain unique. As we keep on travelling, we tend to obtain a wider knowledge when it comes to contemporary and modern décors. It is easier for us to bring in new designs adapted to the lifestyle of Mauritians,” he avers. “I travel around to see what is the trend and what I can bring for my clients.” In the near future, Avish will be converting the small outlet into a one-stop-shop for home products. “I am planning to be closer to my clients, so I am willing to open more outlets around the island,” he hopes.

Avish believes the customer is king and should receive first class treatment. “A client can come to us with some vague ideas but goes home with some well designed concept.” Another interesting feature that Avish has improvised for his clients is an after sales service and warranty on all the products. He even encourages people who do not want to buy anything to come and visit his outlet.
