It is fully funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and covers one year of postgraduate studies in a British university. The scholars will start their courses in the UK this September. In total, six scholarships have been offered to Mauritian professionals this year, including three recipients in Rodrigues.

Leaw Shavin Kissoondhary : “I am very keen to explore the development opportunities”

Shavin will study the MPA Masters in Public Administration and Management at the University College London. Shavin is also a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI). Shavin has worked as a Strategic Planning Coordinator within the Strategy Management Unit of MCB where he acted as an internal consultant to the Top Management in strategic matters. Prior to joining the MCB, he worked at EY, where he was engaged on advisory and consulting work for local and international companies.

For him, it is an immense privilege to be part of the Chevening community whose goal is to cultivate and equip a global network of leaders. “The programme at UCL aims to provide a pragmatic and applied approach to problems organisations are facing based on strong academic grounding to cultivate the managerial skills needed to meet the demands of managing today’s organisations. I am very keen to explore the development opportunities the Chevening bursary and the UCL programme will uncover, and build lasting relationships that will add to my skills as a professional.”

Nityesh Pradeep Peetumbur : “It is a matter of pride and prestige”

Nityesh will study for an LLM in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution at the Queen Mary University of London. He is a self-employed Barrister-at-Law and specialises in Commercial and Corporate Law. He was also Lecturer in Law at the Middlesex University Mauritius. Nityesh looks forward to acquiring the technical expertise to practice as a Dispute Resolution Practitioner in Mauritius and the African continent. “Studying for the Comparative and International Dispute Resolution course at the School of International Arbitration, Queen Mary University of London is a matter of pride and prestige. Mauritius is keen to develop the alternative dispute resolution mechanisms but is, at present, short of professionals with the core skills required in the field. I am, therefore, grateful to Chevening for having awarded me the scholarship which will allow me to respond to that demand.”

Attishkumar Ramdoss : “This prestigious award lays the foundation for me”

Attishkumar will study an MA in Education, Inclusion and Special Needs at the University of Hull. He has previously worked in the Education field as well as in the Civil Service. He wants to specialise in inclusive and special needs education in order to help in formulating appropriate curricula and methods to teach such learners and boost their skills. He is thankful to the UK government for acknowledging his potential. “This prestigious award lays the foundation for me to acquire British finesse in education-related matters and I’m confident that such mastery will be beneficial in more than just shaping the future of education of my country. Apart from professional development, the Chevening award guarantees unprecedented avenues through interaction and sharing of knowledge with diverse scholars worldwide. Now that I’m a Chevening scholar, I can truly understand what it means to ‘dream with open eyes’!”
